Where solar takes you
Generating your own electricity is the surest way to take the sting out of rising energy prices. And modern panels keep working in grey UK light.
-
Protected from price rises
Use the power your roof makes before you buy any from the grid. Every unit you generate is one your supplier can’t put up.
-
Paid for your surplus
Export what you don’t use and earn through the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG).
-
Works in UK light
Panels run on daylight, not heat. Overcast days still generate.
-
A greener, more valuable home
Clean electricity cuts your carbon from day one, and lower running costs and a better EPC rating appeal to buyers.
-
Low maintenance, long warranties
No moving parts, and panels typically carry manufacturer warranties of around 25 years.

Solar questions
The questions we hear most, answered plainly.
Are solar panels worth it with UK weather?
Yes. Panels generate electricity from daylight, not heat, so they keep producing on cloudy days, just less than in bright sun. Cool weather even helps them run efficiently.
The South West is one of the sunniest parts of the UK. We give you a generation estimate for your own roof before you commit, so you can judge the numbers for yourself.
Do I need planning permission?
Usually not. In England, panels on the roof of a house normally count as permitted development, as long as they sit no more than 20cm proud of the roof slope and no higher than the highest part of the roof, chimneys aside.
Listed buildings, flats, and some homes in conservation areas or World Heritage Sites are different. We check your property during the survey and tell you if an application is needed.
Can solar panels take my home off-grid?
Not realistically, for most UK homes. In winter, panels make far less than a household uses, so going fully off-grid would need a very large battery or a backup generator.
The practical aim is to buy much less from the grid. Panels can cover a good share of your daytime electricity for much of the year, and staying connected means you are paid for the power you export through the Smart Export Guarantee.
How long do panels last, and what maintenance do they need?
Panels typically last 25 to 30 years or more, and most manufacturers guarantee a set level of output for around 25 years. The inverter, which converts the power for your home, usually needs replacing once in that time, often after 10 to 15 years.
Maintenance is light. Rain keeps most panels clean, and your monitoring app shows if output drops. A check every few years is plenty.
Will solar panels damage my roof or cause leaks?
Not when they are fitted properly. We survey your roof first to make sure it can take the weight. Panels sit on rails fixed to brackets that hook under the tiles or slates and screw into the rafters, so the roof covering is not drilled through and stays watertight.
We work from scaffolding, refit any tiles we lift, and every MCS-certified installation comes with a workmanship warranty.
